    Alma Hodzic has been a Scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research since 2007, and has recently joined the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France. Alma’s research focuses mainly on the lifecycle of atmospheric aerosols and their feedbacks on tropospheric chemistry, air quality and climate. Alma’s research has led to significant insights into sources, formation and removal pathways of organic aerosols, which are not only toxic pollutants but are also one of the major sources of uncertainty in climate models. Alma has been actively engaged in aerosol process- (GECKO-A), regional- (WRF-Chem, CHIMERE) and global (CAM-Chem, GEOS-Chem) chemical-transport modeling and field campaign support and data analysis (MILAGRO, BEACHON, NOMADSS, DACCIWA), employing innovative data analysis and modeling approaches to question and improve our fundamental understanding of processes related to atmospheric aerosols. Alma has also developped several paramaterizations from experimental and explicit modeling work, that are used in community models to represent organic aerosol formation, ageing and removals.

    Alma received her Master and Engineering degree in Meteorology from the National School of Meteorology in Toulouse, France, and her Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. Her graduate research focused on assessing the sources and properties of tropospheric aerosols in Europe (and in Paris) during extremly polluted conditions of heat-waves and biomass burning episodes, and on the use of lidar in situ and satellite measurements to characterize aerosol properties. This work contributed to the development and evaluation of one of the most used air quality models in Europe.
