Laptop Video Switching

Many thanks to RSVP Presentation Suppliers

Most laptops are capable of providing a video output for a CRT monitor or display devices. For laptops that have this

capability, the video output mode of operation is usually selected by software or key commands. Newer models use a

function key and the Fn key depressed simultaneously to switch the display (Fn+F5 for example), and the function key

typically has a CRT icon on it.

Some laptops have the ability to sense (via a smart port) that a monitor or display device is attached when they are

energized. Because of this, it is recommended that laptops are energized after everything is hooked up and the

                       display device is operating.

Note: Laptops manufactured with SVGA panels (800 x 600) may not allow simultaneous viewing when using

projection devices that support only VGA (640 x 480) resolution.

PROBLEM: Projected image has colors that are not correct or part of the image

                                             is missing.

SOLUTION: This can occur in mirror mode when using complex images. Turn

                                             mirroring off, as follows:

                                             1. From the menu (apple symbol) select Control Panel.

                                             2. Select the monitors icon.

                                             detected" display.

SOLUTION: The PowerBook probably went into sleep mode. Pressing any key

will bring it back on. If you like, you may turn off sleep mode by going into

                                             Control Panel, PowerBook Display

TIPS: In some cases, video mirroring is not recommended for presentations.

Video mirroring allows the presenter to simultaneously display images on the

PowerBook and the projector. However, in this mode the computer takes longer

to change the image because the video driver has to write to both the internal

                                             and the external screens.

Models 100, 140, 145, and 170: No video output. Third party adapters, such as
