Laptop Video Switching
Many thanks to RSVP Presentation Suppliers
Most laptops are
capable of providing a video output for a CRT monitor or display devices. For
laptops that have this
capability, the video
output mode of operation is usually selected by software or key commands. Newer
models use a
function key and the Fn
key depressed simultaneously to switch the display (Fn+F5 for example), and the
function key
typically has a CRT
icon on it.
Some laptops have the
ability to sense (via a smart port) that a monitor or display device is
attached when they are
energized. Because of
this, it is recommended that laptops are energized after everything is hooked
up and the
display device is
operating.
Note: Laptops manufactured
with SVGA panels (800 x 600) may not allow simultaneous viewing when using
projection devices that
support only VGA (640 x 480) resolution.

TIPS: In some cases, video mirroring is not recommended for
presentations.
Video mirroring allows the
presenter to simultaneously display images on the
PowerBook and the projector. However, in this mode the computer takes
longer
to change the image
because the video driver has to write to both the internal
and the external screens.
