NCAR SEAC4RS-2013 Page
In an effort to support the SEAC4RS 2013 mission NCAR is providing several products to
supplement data analysis, nowcasting, forecasting, and flight planning efforts...
DATA:
1. All ICARTT files for the SEAC4RS campaign are uploaded to the NASA Archive.
2. KML files containing flight tracks from flights flown during SEAC4RS by the DC-8 and ER-2.
NOWCASTING:
1. Cameron Homeyer has made custom real time NEXRAD radar composites available for nowcasting.
2. Real time locations and flight tracks of the DC-8 and ER-2 are supplied in placefile format for the GRLevelX software in the
GRLevelX Position/Track Placefiles links section below under 'Real time GRLevelX Postion/Track Placefiles'.
3. Latest DC-8 and ER-2 flight plans from NASA MTS are supplied in placefile format and updated every 10 minutes
4. UNOFFICIAL VOR location placefile for GRLevelX. File is static and not updated.
5. Real time locations and flight tracks of the DC-8 and ER-2 are also supplied in kml format for viewing on Google Earth.
FORECASTING/Weather_Discussions
1. The previous day's synoptic pattern is available as either a java loop, movie, or animated GIF file.
Images in the Java looper are in 30 minute intervals and the movie is in 5 minute intervals.
2. NCAR has several useful forecasting products such as those offered by the Research Applications Laboratry (RAL)
and by Jim Bresch. RAL generates imagery derived from the NAM, GFS, and RAP models and Jim Bresch is offering
products derived from the WRF and GFS
Conceptual Flight Planning and Pre-studies
1. Conceptual flight plans are drawn up ahead of time to provide a basis of executing flights with specific goals in mind.
2. The 2013 monsoon season has been similar to the 2010 season. The synoptic patterns for the 2010 season (Aug-Sep) are provided here
as movies. The movies are the same format as 'Yesterday's Weather' from above.
Other Useful (Non NCAR) Links for NowCasting/Forecasting:
1. Lenny Pfister has provided a links page that contains most of the more useful links, many of which link
to other SEAC4RS affiliated organizations.
2. There are a host of other potentially useful links (many of which are already being linked in Lenny's page.
